Research is a key principle of the NHS to improve the current and future health and care of the population. Research involving patients and members of the public leads to results that are more reliable and therefore more likely to be put into practice.

We want patients and the public to be involved in all stages of research. This covers:

  • Setting research priorities
  • Helping to decide what the research needs to achieve
  • Choosing the methods used to carry out research
  • Recruiting people into research studies
  • Understanding what the research findings mean for patients and how it can be utilised in Primary Care
